This year’s Orphan, Abandoned, Idle, and Marginal Wells program features two tracks – Business and Technical on Feb 18-19 in Tulsa, OK. We will have a full slate of presentations and discussions that will feature best practices, new business opportunities, and revitalizing / repurposing oil and gas wells to both protect the environment and assure we do everything we can to boost our energy reserves.
Since last year, there are new developments in the areas of locating orphan wells, techniques for plugging them, and new ways to fund the clean-ups, including new registries, carbon markets, and repurposing.
There are many aspects of the program that will be very valuable to people in the industry. For example, did you know that if you do not catch small leaks and repair them quickly, you may face steep fines if the amount achieves “super-emitter” status? We will have presentations on all the latest technologies for detecting, identifying, quantifying, and monitoring leaks, with a special focus on methane. We will also look at opportunities and incentives for marginal wells.
Plugging wells is an important process, and there are new materials, processes, and technologies that are being implemented now. We will feature presentations by experienced experts who are passionate about the environment, quality and longevity. For example, if you’re planning a waterflood, it is very important that any legacy non-producing wells in the area are plugged correctly to avoid costly “fails” with the EOR.
Dan Arthur from ALL Consulting is a presenter at the conference and also an instructor for a training course on methane measurement. The introduction to methane monitoring, measurement, and quantification workshop is for all those who would like to understand the requirements and regulations regarding methane emissions and to be able to design a measurement and monitoring solution, complete with the appropriate types of technologies, techniques, and safety protocols.
Objectives:
- Match the need with the appropriate equipment and procedure
- Detail the various methane emissions regulations and requirements for compliance and funding
- Describe guidance, methods, protocols and qualification requirements
- Develop planning, access, safety plans
