Dan Arthur discusses Mechanical Integrity on the second of this series with GWPC. Mechanical Integrity (MI) has been a cornerstone of the Class II Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program since it’s inception. Early in the program, considerable research and testing was done with a variety of testing methods for both internal (Part I) and external (Part II) well integrity. This included building test wells at the USEPA Robert S. Kerr Environmental Research Laboratory in Ada, Oklahoma. Testing methods continue to evolve as technologies continue to advance, supplemented by various reports, workshops, guidances, and various rules. This workshop reviewed both internal and external mechanical integrity and discusses these methods and their application. Continued evolutionary pathways were also discussed.
