Dan Arthur recently presented to the Pennsylvania Grade Crude Development Advisory Council (CDAC) Meeting on generating carbon credits from the plugging & abandonment of Orphan, Idle, Abandoned & Marginal (OIAM) Oil & Gas Wells. This presentation is *NOT* an all encompassing review of the details, but does provide some good “high level” information. This is a needed issue in Appalachia to address issues with the many wells that need plugged or that are may become orphaned. Areas like Pennsylvania are especially a challenge due to the many shallow gas zone and assuring that all gas/methane migration is fully eliminated can be challenging and perhaps require more expertise than in many areas. Understanding the cooler underground temperatures than in many areas of the country, the need for specialty products, methods, and approaches is critical. After more than a dozen years working on hundreds of Gas Migration Investigations (GMIs) and Well Plugging projects in this region, it is clear that well plugging in many of these areas is not something that should be taken lightly! Reach out if you need assistance and I hope this presentation is at least a little helpful!
